Next book - Slade - has a release date!!!

Slade by Laurann Dohner - August 19th!

Book 2 in the New Species series. The books can be read as stand-alone stories, but they are interwoven so it is advisable to read them in order to get the most enjoyment from the series.

Dr. Trisha Norbit is flat on her back in a hospital bed, pinned under a really big New Species male. Though drugged out of his mind, he promises her ecstasy and is determined to deliver but hospital staff intervenes. 215 is a man she will never forget. But, when she meets him again at Homeland…he doesn’t even remember her!

The nosy new doctor wants to know all about the breeding habits between humans and Species. Slade proposes a hands-on education but she's not interested in a one-night stand. He can’t offer more because he's haunted by the memory of a woman he once tried to claim. He’s shocked when he realizes they are one and the same. He’s blown it—she'll never give him a chance now.

But, when her life is in danger, he's the only one who can save her. As they flee through the wilderness, their desire ignites and cannot be denied. Hot sex, on the run, has consequences that are even more dangerous and will change their lives forever.

Fury is OUT! Yippee! I've gotten a lot of emails about it. They love him. AWESOME! To get this series out is a dream come true for me.

On a personal note ----

I debated on if I should address this or not but if you know me - I'm pretty blunt and upfront. Some people are comparing my New Species series to another well known series and that's fine and even understandable but here's some things to keep in mind just for knowledge sake. First off, I wrote this series before that series was out and I have the old, dusty computer and the dated files to prove it. Second off, anyone ever heard of H.G Wells??? Island of Doctor Moreau was a book written in 1896 and a movie was made about it in the 70's I believe. They did a remake of it some years ago too (90's) if you don't read classics. It was a horror novel about experiments gone wrong with animals/human hybrids. This idea isn't exactly unique. That's just an example and I used it because who hasn't heard of H.G Wells? The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and the list goes on for his books. He wrote awesome scary stuff and they made fantastic science fiction/horror movies about them. There are more examples but I used that since yeah - who hasn't heard of him??? The idea of genetically altered human beings with animal DNA has been out there for over a hundred years.

Read New Species and you'll see they are different. The only common bond is genetically altered humans with animal DNA. A pharmaceutical company created them (not sure about the other series and how/why they were made) but in reality who would make them? Common sense. I doubt some guy in his basement has the high tech skill or equipment to take on genetic splicing and my chemistry set as a kid sure wouldn't have done the trick. LOL. The science is unfortunately real. They've been doing experiments with human/animal DNA mixing for a lot of years searching to find cures and that's why a drug company was picked in my head to have created them. It made sense to me. Look at the recent news story released on the subject as an example of the possibility. http://in.news.yahoo.com/uk-scientists-slammed-secretly-growing-human-animal-hybrid-111941923.html

I personally wrote about them because my first book/series I ever wrote was about a town hit by chemical weapons and it physically and emotionally changed them. My next series was about werewolves. I started a third series and kind of combined the two. Altered humans and animals met science and they merged. The New Species were born to my imagination. There are a ton of vampire and werewolf books out there. Again, not a unique idea but some AWESOME books are out there! I love them. Keep em' coming!!! Some series are known more than others. I'd hate to have every vampire book compared to Anne Rice because they are so different. (Loved her books, by the way) But... I hope you see the point. Werewolves are so out there in so many forms, in so many series, I can't even think of one that is the most well known in my mind. LOL. Anyway, I just wanted to address that. It saddens me when someone admits they missed out on some great stories about hybrid animal humans.

Have a terrific weekend.

  1. Hey Laurann,

I agree, there are stacks of vampire/werewolf/cyborg etc stories out there - it's how we tell their story that makes them different =)

  2. I am so glad that Slade is coming out soon. I loved Fury! Like you stated, human/animal DNA experiments have been around forever. Any comparisons between the two series should end at that! Both of you are superb authors telling a story that has a basis in science and in the news. End of story.

Keep them coming, Laurann. Don't forget about the Zorn men or the Raine's either!!

  3. Hi Mel,

    Thank you.

    Marie,

I'm so glad you loved Fury. Yeah, I read the reviews and it's being mentioned. I thought it was worth responding to. In the past year I've read 4 series with Vampire warrior types who live in the same place and battle evil. (example) NONE of them are the same except that underlying thread. It will blow over when they actually READ my series. LOL. Thank you.

  4. Laurann I loved fury and I can’t wait for your next book. I agree that as soon as they read your book they will see the differences. I have read the other books and I did start to compare them but I personally liked your book better and I can’t wait to have all of them. I also think that they are comparing them because she started at the same publisher that you are using and because you can’t find tons of others (vampire or werewolves) to compare them too. Keep your head up I am sure that your books will stand on their own and do very well.

  6. Give me any story by any author and I can show you someone who wrote a similar one two hundred years before.

People shouldn't compare books based on the nature of the characters, or species in this case, but on how compelling is the story and how the words telling it flow.

Keep up the good work, and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

BTW - Still waiting on Krell here. Write faster! :P

  7. Rivendark,

Thank you. This weekend I got a lot of emails telling me about the four Vampire authors who have gone through this because they wrote vampire warrior types who share living space and fall in love with women. LOL! It cracked me up and WOW are they huge authors. (I read three of those authors and the series are way different) I figure once a few books are out people will stop just seeing the genetically altered man/animal and auto comparing them when they get more into the stories.

  8. Laurann, I just love all your books but I think this New Species series is going to be my favorite. I have to agree with Rivendark. As an avid reader for many years I can say there are books out there with similar story lines. You have taken this idea and made it your own. Keep up the good work! I'm counting the days till Slade! 10. I was reading your books back when they came in a shoe box of loose papers. I am so glad that you finally got published as many of us told you to all those years ago! I loved Fury back then and am so glad that you are putting out for everyone else to fall in love with!

I love your stories and adore the eye candy :)

  11. Hi Amy,

LOL! I hope it's cooler up there than it is down here. Thank you. You were always supportive and a wonderful friend. I've come a long way since that brother word processor, huh? LOL. I was telling T the other day about how you and I were pregnant at the same time and how your son J is only 2 days older than her. She's 12 now and reflecting on her 'old' age!!! LOL!!! Big hugs!!! Call me sometime. We need to catch up!

  12. It is so ridiculous that people even brought up the comparison to the other series. I think it's largely because human/animal hybrid stories are just less common in romance and far more common in non-romantic sci-fi and fantasy. Fury was an excellent book and the emotional connection between the characters was frankly something often missing in the "other" series. I can't wait for the next book!

  13. Hi Julie,

Thank you! I'm sure it will blow over once a few books are out and it's more clear how different they are. I'm so glad that you liked Fury! Slade will be out in less than 2 weeks!!! Valiant is the next book. Fingers crossed it will get a Sept release date.

  14. Hi,
I'm a big fan of the other series by that other author. I must admit that when I first started reading Fury, i did think it was a lot like it, but once you keep reading you realise it's nothing like it. But now, I have two great series by two great authors, I love it.
