Looking back... My birthday is this month. (with pic)

That's me... when I was 19. LOL. Just starting my life out. I was living in Reno here. I'm not sure where this picture was taken. I used to love to go on weekend road trips so it could have been anywhere around that area or it's possibly Lake Tahoe. This was 1989 ( don't you love the clothes with the half shirt and the thick, chunky belt? Yeah, that's my hair 'as is'. No perms or anything, unfortunately. I have wild '80's' hair... still...LOL. The picture is old so it's discolored a little because my hair here was blonde and not strawberry but then again... I used to dye my hair often so I could be wrong. LOL.
.
I'm turning 40 on June 10th. A lot of my younger friends have asked me if it bothers me. NOPE! I can honestly say that I'm damn happy to see it. LOL. I've had a few brushes with death so I think it changes your entire prospective of aging. Every year is a blessing and I always celebrate each and every one.
.
I've spent 20 years with Mr. Laurann and while we've traveled a few rocky roads, usually just being so broke it was tough to survive, we have grown really close. I can say that he's my best friend and the other half of me. We never planned on having 4 children but are grateful that we ended up with that many. Our oldest is eighteen years old and just made us grandparents with a grandson. My other children are ages 11, 7, and our only son is 5. They keep us busy and to be honest, we rarely feel our age because of it. My friends have kids leaving high school or are into college so their lives are totally different from my own. They are trying to fill all the empty space that is left between being a 'full time' parent and finding how to learn to let go so their children can live their own lives. I'm still tripping over toys, being the MOM TAXI, and am in elbows deep with child activities. My day revolves around their schedules. I just know that I'm really lucky because I love my life, I love Mr. Laurann, and now that I'm getting my books out there, all of my dreams have come true. Not bad. I only have a short list left of 'things I want to do'. I feel blessed that way.
.
When you come to a birthday you always look forward in time as well. What am I thinking about? I want to lose the rest of the weight I put on having kids and some health issues that I'm now past. I'd like to plan and take some family trips but as much as I love road trips...the truth is that my younger kids get car sick. Yeah. LOL. Life is always funny that way and I can joke about it. I think we'll settle for Disneyland this summer since it's only fifteen minutes away and I know the kids would love it. I grew up going at least once a week in my teens to go dancing there so not a real big deal to me but I'm sure looking at it from their fresh point of view...I'll have the time of my life.
.
Mr. Laurann and I are totally looking forward to going to Romanticon in October. We haven't taken a vacation together, just us, since...ready for it...1996 when we got married. I doubt driving moving vans from here to Texas and then back to Southern California counts as a vacation when we lived there for 14 months. We are really looking forward to five days in Ohio, meeting all the authors and even some readers that I've made friends with. It's very exciting and I still need to go shopping. I have a list that starts with buying a suitcase. I don't own one since I never go anywhere. LOL.
.
I hope everyone is happy that summer is starting. LOL. I have mixed feelings because summer means I have all 3 children underfoot so it makes writing a little harder. I've talked about my personal life so here's a little about the professional side. I am going to have good 'werewolf' news soon. That's the only hint you're going to get. I'm busy writing a book in all three of my series. If you missed that, LOL, I started a third series - Riding the Raines. Propositioning Mr. Raine is the first in the series. I'm a write-a-holic who spends more time working on WIP's than sleeping so no worries that I'm going to not write more books in whatever series you enjoy. More are coming. I'm actually attempting to SLOW down. Oh... And Propositioning Mr. Raine has a July 30th release date!!! Very cool!!! You can just click on the covers to go read the blurbs and the excerpts.

Melting Iron - the third Cyborg Seduction book comes out June 3oth!!!

I hope everyone has a great week! Happy first day of June.

  1. Laurann I so know what you mean about toys underfoot!! Your children's ages are actually similar to mine - 19 year old daughter (with baby), 12 year old daughter and almost three year old daughter! WOn't mention the three stepchildren! LOL~~

  4. Cari,

LOL. I'm something, all right. LOL. Thank you. I'm sure that I will have a great B-day. I'm easy. Favorite fast food, I'll rent a movie I really wanted to see, and Mr. Laurann just bought me what I wanted today ( naked guy artwork for my desk! )

And my hair. You THINK it would be cool but um...no. If it's short...I look like Orhan Annie so I keep it longer and it frizzes like Gilda Radner's from SNL when it rains. I have to use MEGA conditioners on it. I tried straightening my hair but after repeated use of one...it started to break from dry damage. LOL

  6. Hi Kaye! Awe...that's so sweet of you to say about my picture. As for the writing...it's all about how many hours I'm lucky enough to put into my writing since I don't have an outside job so can literally spend 8 plus hours a day working on WIPs. Have a great day!
