Have I mentioned I'm not big on shopping? LOL.

I have a few female friends who used to love to drag me to the mall every weekend when I was a teenager. They could spend hours browsing in stores, trying on outfits, shoes, admiring purses, hair accessories... and all I could think was... someone SAVE ME!!! LOL. The only 'Mall' shopping that I ever did that I have a fond memory of is when I was dating my husband... we went shopping with a friend of mine who needed a dress for a nice dance she'd been invited to by a guy she liked. We were waiting for her to come out of the dressing room in some swanky shop that played music. I was bored, wanted to end my nightmare, praying feverishly that the 25th dress she'd tried on was 'the one' that would make her happy... and my then boyfriend walked up to me, held out his hand, and asked me for a dance. Yes. He so did. I'm going to date myself here but the movie 'Beaches' with Bette Midler had just come out a year before. We danced to 2 of the songs from the soundtrack playing, dancing through the store, ignoring that the big glass windows to the main walkway to the mall were there, and yes, people stopped to stare. It was awesome and romantic. People clapped even. Kind of embarrassing but I didn't mind at all. It was a moment when you look into a man's eyes and you KNOW. How can you not fall in love and want to spend the rest of your life with a guy who will risk embarrassment at a big mall full of shoppers to dance in a store with you? LOL. He saved me all right in so many ways.
.
I'm thinking about that tonight because tomorrow I have to go 'dreaded' clothing shopping. Man I hate shopping for clothes. OMG. I'm more of a 'guy' shopper. My motto is rush in, grab what I need, and get the hell out as fast as possible. I don't think I'd mind so much if the husband went with me and danced with me but he's babysitting. SIGH. That leaves me on my own battling dressing rooms, finding things in my size, and not only do I need to find something that fits... I have to find 'the dress'. We're going to my husband's really nice company Christmas dinner next weekend. It's a really nice event that I have to dress up for. Keep in mind I'm all about comfort so I know I have to buy a dress and high heel shoes which aren't in my comfort level. LOL. I always have this problem with dresses because to put it politely I'm an X-large shirt with medium bottoms kind of body type. Nothing ever fits right. If the lower part of the dress fits my waist and hips... I can't squeeze my upper portion into it. If it fits my upper portion... it floats around my lower half. I just know it's going to be a nightmare, take FOREVER to find something that fits me right AND looks good. I miss the days when my friends and I all wore about the same size. I used to just buy the clothes off of their backs literally. (I really did). I'd see them wearing something, ask how much it cost, and pay them. "Take it off, hand it over, and go buy another since you love to shop." And... they DID IT. What great friends, huh? All my friends who wear the same size I do have moved away. Sad but true. I think I need to find new friends by clothing sizes. LOL.
.
I'm also going to be wrapping a ton of presents when I get back from the 'dress hunt'. Hence the picture of the fire above. It's going to be a hellish day. LOL. Of course it will be worth it all because I'm going out on a date with my husband next weekend, dinner, dancing, and spending a wonderful night at his Christmas Party. I'll be doing mental images while I'm trying on dresses of that Mall 20 years ago, him holding out his hand to me, that sexy smile of his, and how it feels to dance in his arms. That should get me through at least 25 of my own dresses to try on. LOL.

  1. Oh you're husband is soooo romantic!! Sounds odd I know, but my very first 'real' boyfriend was so romantic it drove me crazy (always touching, wanting to be near, flowers etc etc) I think I must have deliberately sought out the opposite in my man cause he's about as romantic as headline news (g). And I know what you mean about shopping, these days I even hate grocery shopping... Hermit I am!!

  6. Hi Regina, I married a great guy who does romantic stuff like that fortunately. He still dances with me in our living room sometimes and opens doors for me. Shopping bites! LOL. I'm glad you got it done quickly.
